Richard Franklin (director)

Richard Franklin ( born July 15, 1948 in Melbourne, Victoria, † July 11, 2007 same place ) was an Australian film director, screenwriter and producer.

Life and work

Richard Franklin was born in Melbourne and grew up in Brighton, a suburb of Melbourne. He began studying at Monash University in Melbourne and worked as a camera assistant at a production company for television films. During the 60 years Franklin was a member of the band The Pink Finks. In 1967 he went to USA to study at the University of Southern California. Here he met Alfred Hitchcock know who taught at Franklin's instigation, also at the University a course. Later he turned the first sequel to Hitchcock's classic Psycho. From the early 1970s, Richard Franklin was then working as a director and producer.

For his screenplay for the movie Hotel Sorrento Franklin was awarded an AFI Award.
