Richard Frommel

Richard Frommel (* July 16, 1854 in Augsburg, † April 6, 1912 ) was a gynecologist and director of the University Hospital of Erlangen from 1887 to 1901. He is considered a pioneer in the treatment of unruptured ectopic pregnancy. His name is also still in Chiari - Frommel syndrome present.

Life

Frommel studied in Munich, Göttingen and Würzburg. Among his academic teachers belonged to the famous gynecologist Karl Schroeder (1838-1887), who had been professor of 1869-1876 in Erlangen. In Schroeder at the First University Hospital of Berlin Frommel worked from 1879 to 1882, first as assistant, then as a senior physician. He then went to Munich, habilitated there and ran a " private institution for women's diseases ". 1887 Frommel received the call to Erlangen. In 1901, he joined at the age of only 46 years, after almost 13 years as director of Erlanger Women's Hospital for unknown reasons surprising of all offices back, went back to Munich and gave each medical activity on. Frommel died as a result of acute appendicitis.

During his time Erlanger Frommel has published over thirty works that dealt with all areas of the field. In 1887 he founded " Frommels annual reports for the Obstetrics and Gynecology ", the first collection of papers of all important publications of the department.

The gynecology owes Frommel, among others, a decisive impetus to rethink in the treatment of unruptured ectopic pregnancy. In contrast to the then prevailing doctrine, the recommended waiting and observing, to Frommel sat for immediate surgical intervention a.

Frommel was a member of the Corps Suevia Munich ( 1873), Brunsviga Göttingen ( 1873) and Rhenaniastraße Würzburg ( 1875).
