Richard Laugs

Richard Laugs ( born March 10, 1907 in Hagen, † 1978 in Mannheim, Germany) was a German conductor and pianist.

Laugs was the son of conductor Robert Laugs. He studied in Munich and Berlin, among other things, he was a pupil of Joseph Pembaur and Artur Schnabel. After graduating, he toured as a pianist and accompanist was in Hanover and Berlin.

From 1945 to 1951 Laugs was first Kapellmeister at the National Theater in Mannheim. He received a teaching position at the Musikhochschule Mannheim, and in 1951 its director. In 1955 he was appointed professor.

After his death his widow cried together with the Mannheim lawyers Professor Claus Meissner in 2000, the Beethoven Piano Competition Richard Laugs to life.
