Richard Muth

Richard Ferris Muth ( born May 14, 1927 in Chicago) is an American economist and university professor. He is one of the pioneers of Urban Economics.

Career, teaching and research

Muth studied at Washington University. After he had reached in 1949 the degree of Bachelor of Arts, he left the University the following year as Master of Arts. In 1958, he graduated with a Ph.D. degree from the University of Chicago. First, he remained at the university, and later he was appointed professor at Stanford University, and finally at Emory University.

Together with Edwin Mills and William Alonso drew courage the basics of spatial economics and Urban Economics. Mills and Muth developed using methods of Spatial Analysis fundamental process for urban development and made important contributions to the development of the model of the monocentric city structure.
