Richard O'Brien

Richard O'Brien ( born March 25, 1942 in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire as Richard Timothy Smith ) is a British actor, author and composer.

Life

In the 1970s, Richard O'Brien created the musical The Rocky Horror Show in homage to the horror film of the 1950s and 60s. Previously, he had already appeared in touring productions of Hair and Jesus Christ Superstar in smaller roles. Inspiration for his musical he picked up at the Hollywood B movies, science fiction movies and comic books and music at the Rock 'n' Roll. Even his own openly practiced bisexuality shapes the film, which deals with numerous variants of transvestism and fetishism.

In the following years, he has repeatedly mostly minor roles in several films and television series. He often plays sinister characters which correspond to antiquated clichés of the horror genre, and thus can be considered a kind of parody of his role as Riff Raff. In larger roles he is no longer visible, except in the sequel to The Rocky Horror Picture Show Shock Treatment, but was unable to repeat the success. However, he still enjoys great financial prosperity resulting from the licenses of the Rocky Horror Musicals.

O'Brien was twice married, has three children and lives in London.

He is the dubbing voice of Ferb 's father Lawrence "Dad " Fletcher in the U.S. animated series Phineas and Ferb the Walt Disney Company since 2007.

At the Berlinale 1998 O'Brien received a special Teddy Award for Lifetime Achievement.
