Richard T. Ely

Richard Theodore Ely ( born April 13, 1854 in Ripley, New York, † October 4, 1943 in Old Lyme, Connecticut ) was an American economist and a leading figure of the Progressive Movement and the Social Gospel, as reactions to the negative effects of unbridled capitalism were founded and in the U.S. as a role model obtained a high priority.

Life

Richard Ely first studied at Columbia University and then earned his doctorate at the University of Heidelberg. Strongly influenced by Karl Knies and the Historical School, he returned in 1881 to the United States, first at the Johns Hopkins University back, where he worked until 1892. He then taught at the University of Wisconsin- Madison.

Inspired by the Association for Social Policy, he founded the American Economic Association, which he was president in the period 1899-1901.
