Richie Powell

Richard " Richie" Powell ( born September 5, 1931 in New York City, New York, † June 26, 1956 in Bedford, Pennsylvania ) was an American pianist, composer and arranger of modern jazz.

Richie Powell was the younger brother of Bud Powell. He studied in New York, played from 1949 to 1951 in New York City and Philadelphia. 1951 to 1952 he worked with Paul Williams, 1952-1954 Johnny Hodges and was then a member of the Quintet by Max Roach and Clifford Brown. His reputation was based mainly on his arrangements. He also took with Sonny Rollins and Dinah Washington records. Powell was killed in a car accident along with his wife Nancy and Clifford Brown died.
