The Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport is the international airport of Amarillo, Texas, United States. It is located 10 km east of downtown in the Amarillo metropolitan area.

Airlines and destinations

Amarillo is not served from German speaking countries, but with American Airlines several times a day via aviation hub in Dallas, Continental Airlines via Houston. In addition, the low cost airline Southwest Airlines operates the Dallas Love Field Airport (November 2011).

History

In 1929 Harold English airport as English Field. Transcontinental & Western Airlines, a predecessor of TWA and Braniff International Airways flew to Amarillo.

1942 was a military airfield in the United States Air Force. Flying Fortresses were stationed here. In 1968, the air base was closed.

In 1971, a new terminal, which was renewed in 2007. 2003, the airport was renamed in honor of the astronaut Colonel Rick Douglas Husband, who was born in Amarillo and had an accident on 1 February of the same year.
