Ricki Herbert

Richard " Ricki " Herbert, CNZM ( born April 10, 1961 in Auckland ) is a New Zealand football coach and former football player. Herbert is a former coach of his country and was in February 2013, the same club coach at Wellington Phoenix. The coach office in Wellington, he gave up voluntarily, because his club only finished in last place the Australian A- League.

Herbert played for several New Zealand and Australian football teams as well as between 1984 and 1986 for Wolverhampton Wanderers in England. During his playing career, Herbert graduated from 1980-1989 a total of 61 caps (7 goals) for New Zealand and took part in the 1982 FIFA World Cup.

Since 1990, Herbert has been working as a coach. In 1996 he took over as coach at Central United in the'' National '' Summer League and won with this team in 1997 and 1998 the Chatham Cup, 1999 Central United was New Zealand champion.

As of 1999, the New Zealand Football Association Herbert committed as a coach for various national teams. In February 2005, Herbert was appointed coach after he worked as an assistant to Mick Waitt since 2003.

In December 2006 he took over as coach in parallel by the New Zealand representative in the A-League, the New Zealand Knights, after the owners of the club, the license had been revoked. After the license for the 2007 /08 season was transferred to the Wellington Phoenix, he was coach of the team.

With the national team, he participated in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa as a coach. There, his team finished second in Group F ( with Italy, Slovakia and Paraguay) after three draws in third place.

In qualifying for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, his team failed in the play- offs at Mexico, leading to his resignation as coach after themselves.
