Ricky Ford
Ricky Ford ( Richard Allen Ford, born March 4, 1954 in Boston / Massachusetts) is an American jazz saxophonist.
Ford studied at the New England Conservatory of Music. In 1974, he took with the local New England Conservatory Ragtime Ensemble under Gunther Schuller works of Scott Joplin on. He toured then until 1976 with the Duke Ellington Orchestra under Mercer Ellington. Then he worked with Charles Mingus ( Cumbia & Jazz Fusion ), was from 1978 to 1981 a member of the quintet of Dannie Richmond and Mingus Dynasty 1982 and has performed with Lionel Hampton, Amina Claudine Myers and Abdullah Ibrahim.
He also played a number of albums as a bandleader. In the late 1980s he was Artist -in- Residence at Brandeis University, led his own band, McCoy Tyner took with (Big ) Band, and toured Europe.
