Ridgeway

Ridgeway literally means about ridge trail or Fastweg and is synonymous with the German designation trail. Such, often very old way is usually followed by watersheds or at least try in about one contour line to follow and waters close to their origin or to places where they are still small to cross. Known such paths are in the Ochsenweg Germany in Schleswig-Holstein, which leads up to the northern Jutland in Denmark and the Rennsteig on the crest of the Thuringian Forest.

  • Hærvejen along the Cimbrian peninsula
  • The Rennsteig on the crest of the Thuringian Forest
  • The Rennweg ( Arnsberg Forest ), an ancient trade route in the Arnsberg Forest
  • The 1904 projected ridge trail along the border mountains of Bohemia
  • In England, the Ridgeway National Trail, which was perhaps the origin of the term in English.
  • In California, is the Ridge Route, a more modern line, which does not always follow a ridge line.
