  • Olive ridley turtle ( Lepidochelys olivacea )
  • Atlantic ridley turtle ( Lepidochelys kempii )

The Ridley Turtles come in two types: the Real or olive ridley turtle ( Lepidochelys olivacea ) and the Atlantic ridley turtle ( Lepidochelys kempii ). They belong to sea turtles and are about 70 cm body length and a maximum weight of 50 kg, the smallest member of this group. The two species are similar in appearance and behavior, the basic color of the olive ridley turtle is, however, olive green, also with greenish drawing elements against the gray-green tanks of the Atlantic type and the tank is higher and longer in shape than that of their relatives. The underside of both species shows a yellowish tone.

The olive ridley turtle lives mainly in the Indian and Pacific Ocean and can be found in the Asian and American coasts of the oceans. It feeds on sea snakes, crabs, cephalopods, jellyfish, sea urchins and other animals. Contrary to the assertion that animals also feed on vegetable, there is also no documented observations. In keeping with the name survived the Atlantic ridley in the Atlantic Ocean, but it will have only a very limited distribution area off the Mexican coast. Your diet also consists of various invertebrate animals and fish eggs.

The two kinds of olive ridleys are the only species in which a mass- explanatory landing on the breeding beaches can be observed. Also unique is the selection of the time of day, in contrast to all other species because they prefer the bright day, especially on strong windy days.

Their names have received the Ridley, as they were once considered hybrids between the green turtle and the loggerhead turtle. Due to their meat and their eggs, the Ridley Turtles were all the other sea turtles hunted as intensively and are now protected by the Washington Convention under international protection.
