Riec-sur-Belon

Riec -sur -Belon is a commune with 4115 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011 ) in the department of Finistère in the Brittany region; it belongs to the administrative district in the canton of Quimper and Pont -Aven.

Geography

The community is located about 30 kilometers northwest of Lorient and 35 kilometers southeast of Quimper in the landscape Cornwall. Neighboring communities of Riec -sur -Belon are:

  • Le Trévoux in the Northeast,
  • Baye in the east,
  • Moëlan -sur -Mer in the south east,
  • Nevez in the southwest,
  • Pont -Aven in the west and
  • Bannalec in the northwest.

Riec -sur -Belon has in the extreme southwest of the municipality a share of the coastline of the Atlantic Ocean. Here, the estuaries of the two rivers Aven and Belon flow into the sea, forming a headland. The municipal seat is located about five kilometers inland on the River Dourdu, a tributary of the Belon.

Transport links

The municipality is determined by the department of roads D783 ( Concarneau about Riec to Quimperlé ) and powered by the D24 ( from Riec about Moëlan -sur- Mer to Guidel ). Furthermore, the D4 leads to Bannalec and provides access to the Route Nationale N165, which crosses the municipality in the north.

Besides a large number of finds from the Neolithic period, as menhirs, stone rows and dolmens are available in the community are other attractions:

  • Église Saint Pierre church from the 17th century in the capital,
  • Chapelle Saint Philibert, chapel from the 17th century on the banks of the Belon,
  • Château de Belon, mansion of the 18th century, ibid.

Economy

In the mouth of the rivers hoppers port facilities have been set up for boats. The estuary of the river Belon is particularly known for its oysters.
