Riessersee

The Rießersee or Rießer lake is south of Garmisch to 785 m altitude in the Wettersteingebirge. It was created artificially in a clearing in the middle ages. For the water supply primarily a source slope on the southeast shore provides.

Around the lake, the trail leads. There is a small bathhouse on the southeast side. The current water quality is good, all guideline levels respected.

On the Rießersee many ice sports competitions such as speed skating and ice hockey at the Olympic Games of 1936. Known were born earlier, the lake was at first mainly by the legendary Olympic bobsled track in 1936, which was created in 1909 and today is a listed building. From 1910, here - on one of the most dangerous tracks in the world - run numerous races. The target curve of the historic nature bobsleigh run is in the southwest of the lake. Just a few hundred meters from the lake, is the " Bobschuppen " with numerous historical exhibits and original footage. In winter, the frozen lake is still used for skating and curling. In the years 2011 and 2012 was fought on the Rießersee the Pond Hockey Cup.

The lake is also the namesake of the traditional winter sports clubs and ice hockey club SC Riessersee that on the frozen lake its games fought out earlier.
