Rieter

Rieter (legally Rieter Holding AG ) is an internationally active Swiss industrial holding company with headquarters in Winterthur. The Group is active in textile machinery and formerly in the automotive and plastics industry in 1795 as JJ Rieter & Cie. founded and was before his conversion known as Maschinenfabrik Rieter AG, a holding company in the 20th century.

Sales in fiscal 2012 decreased by 12 % compared to the previous year. The net profit also fell by CHF 119 million to CHF 26.5 million. In Asia, 77 % of sales were provided, in Europe, the proportion dropped to 10%. Because of the difficult sales situation in Europe is planned for the current fiscal year, job cuts in the amount of 250 jobs in Switzerland.

History

Johann Jacob Rieter (1762-1826) founded the company JJ Rieter & Cie. 1795 in Winterthur as a trading company for exotic spices and cotton. Aided by the Napoleonic Continental System rose Rieter own spinning mills in the production of textiles and acquired in 1833 the buildings of the former convent Töss in the then independent municipality Töss at Winterthur as a factory site.

Like many other textile manufacturers of the 19th century also ran his own Maschinenfabrik Rieter. These specialized in the manufacture of textile machinery and the associated drives and power transmission systems. In addition, Rieter also presented locomotives, trams, guns and engines. Rieter created in 1852 the first workers' settlement in Switzerland and was a pioneer of Labour Welfare. 1891, the company was transformed from the family Rieter in the joint-stock company « Maschinenfabrik Rieter AG ». The last family members in the company management was Benno Rieter ( 1870-1925 ). During the First World War, the company management decided in 1915 to concentrate on the manufacture of spinning machinery.

Rieter later expanded his business again, including in the chemical fiber sector. After the Second World War, the expansion abroad followed, in 1951 in the USA (American Rieter Company, Arlington ) and 1962 to India ( Coimbatore ). In 1970, the Pension Fund of Rieter is founded. In the 1980s, expanded and diversified through acquisitions Rieter strong. In 1982, the English company Ernest Scragg & Sons ( texturing ), 1987, Schubert & Salzer Maschinenfabrik AG was acquired (rotor spinning machines ).

In 1984, the Swiss Rieter Holding AG Unikeller and thus increased as a supplier to the automotive industry. As a direct result, in 1985, Maschinenfabrik Rieter AG, Rieter Holding AG, the new holding company of the Group, while the name Maschinenfabrik Rieter AG went to a newly formed subsidiary, in which the textile machinery division was summarized.

The Unikeller Holding merged in 1989 with the Rieter Holding, while retaining the name Unikeller for the business automobile parts, which was eventually renamed Rieter Automotive Systems 1995. During the year 2010, the removal of stored Automobile Division was developed into an independent company in the way. The newly established for this purpose in December 2010 Unikeller Holding AG was renamed on 22 November 2011, with the dispatch of invitations to the General Assembly and the publication of the statutes, in Autoneum Holding AG. At the General Meeting of 13 April 2011, the division by the majority of Rieter shareholders was adopted, whereby the Automotive Systems division operates under the name Autoneum as an independent company since 13 May 2011.

Divisions

The Rieter Group was founded in 2011 from the division Textile Systems, offering claims to be the only manufacturer worldwide products and know- how for the entire spinning process and is a leader in the manufacture of machinery and equipment for the production and processing of synthetic filament yarns, nonwovens and granules for the plastic industry. Mid-2011, about 4,700 people were employed in 18 manufacturing facilities in 9 countries, and achieved a turnover of CHF 537.8 million in the first half.

Between 1984 and May 2011, the Rieter Group also included the Automotive Systems and one of the leading manufacturers of auto parts in the fields of acoustic comfort and thermal protection. Before this business was discharged as Autoneum Holding AG into independence, the Rieter Group employed close to 14,000 employees at 98 production sites in 27 countries.
