Mountain environment
The Refuge is located just below the Col d' Olen, which the Corno Rosso ( 3023 m ) with the Corno del Camoscio connects ( 3026 m). Through a well-developed network of paths with different demands and optimal connections by cable cars from two valleys provides the Rifugio as a stopover for tours in the high mountains of the Monte Rosa massif, such as the 4000 summit Vincent Pyramid ( 4087 m), Dufour (4634 m), Parrotspitze ( 4463 m) or Signalkuppe ( 4554 m ) on.
Additions
Accessible is the Rifugio several ways from about 1700 meters below the valley town of Alagna. One of these paths leads from Alagna, first heading west over the Passo Foric. On the way through the Val d' Otro are the tiny picturesque mountain village settlements, Follù, Scarpia and Pianmisura. The substrate has approached grassed up to the Passo Foric.
The running north from Alagna access leads past the Rifugio Pastore. Behind the vegetation becomes increasingly thinner as you stony. To go on this path to Rifugio Guglielmina, you have to cross the Passo del Diavolo, on whose steep ascent over loose scree sure-footedness and freedom are needed.
From Alagna a cable car with two intermediate stations leads to the Passo dei Salati ( 2936 m), from where you can reach in 15 minutes walking Rifugio Guglielmina. Also leading from Tschaval north of Gressoney a cable car over the Passo dei Salati Gabiet on.
From the Col d' Olen, the path runs west down into the next valley Val di Gressoney in the direction of the local center Gressoney la Trinité. At about the abundant halfway down there is the possibility of turning north towards high light, Rifugio Città di Mantova and Capanna Gnifetti in Gabiet.
Another way to move up to the higher-lying mountains, also towards the Rifugio Gnifetti, via the Stolemberg ( 3202 m) with steeply sloping ridge, Punta Indren ( 3260 m) and the Ghiacciaio d' Indren ( Indren glacier).
Details to the refuge
The Rifugio Guglielmina is since its construction in 1878 under private management. In recent years, a number of modernization efforts were made so that the building wins with a mountain hotel in its comfort similarity. The Rifugio offers showers and hot water. A navigable with the SUV way allows a constant supply of the cabin. The 40 double rooms are individually heated electrically.
Fire 22 December 2011
In the early morning of 22 December 2011, the Rifugio was completely gutted. Strong winds fanned the flames and prevented fire-fighting operations. People were not used in the fire to harm.
