RIH

RIH is a Dutch bicycle brand.

History

The company was founded in 1921 by the brothers Joop and Willem Bustraan in the Jordaan district of Amsterdam and began at the local Eerste Boomdwarsstraat and from 1928 at the Westerstraat with the production of racing wheels. Joop Bustraan itself was also active as a cyclist and pacemaker.

RIH gained some notoriety as a number of cyclists acted with racing wheels by this manufacturer. By 2011, 63 world championships and Olympic qualifications were achieved with wheels that mark. With the advent of large -sponsored cycling teams, the successes have been less. Sponsor henceforth decided on the nature of the material used and not the individual drivers themselves

Through a close connection to the Dutch national cycling federation KNWU in which RIH is operated as a material sponsor between 1989 and 1996, the company was able to build on past successes; acquired in 1990 Leontien van Moorsel her first world title in the individual pursuit. Ingrid Haringa 1991 world champion in sprint and 1991, 1993 and 1994 world champion in the points race.

In 1972, RIH entered into a collaboration with the Cove bicycle factory in Venlo. Cove acquired thereby the right to bring bicycles with the name RIH on the market. In the factory buildings in Amsterdam are to this day still bicycle frames and racing bikes built.

Trivia
