Rineke Dijkstra

Rineke Dijkstra ( born June 2, 1959 in Sittard, Netherlands ) is a Dutch photographer.

Work

Rineke Dijkstra studied from 1981 to 1986 in Amsterdam at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy. Since 1984 she exhibits her works in the Netherlands and other European countries. Dijkstra quickly became popular internationally through its consistent work on individual projects. It provides portrait series ago (usually Ganzkörperportaits ) eg Toreros, women after childbirth, foreign legionnaires or adolescents at the beach. The people present themselves directly or posing in front of camera in their current environment, and there are photographs that have a distinctly unique style.

As much as they may recall the work of August Sander, they differ not only in their restrained coloration, resulting, inter alia, of their technique of Aufhellblitzens, Sanders photographs. Rineke Dijkstra's attitude is sober proportion to distances taking and so can the mugged of her people appear fragile and vulnerable. They do not stand for a category, class, or group, rather they are individuals who live in precarious situations or transitory biographical phases.

She lives and works in Amsterdam.
