Ringen

The combat rings is a medieval martial art that was practiced mainly in the Holy Roman Empire. It contained, besides handles and shrikes also throws and joint locks that are similar to today's Judo and Aikido techniques.

History

The combat rings served the knights' training in unarmed self-defense. Written records have been found mainly in the late Middle Ages, however, the rings battle was exercised during the Middle Ages and the Renaissance and still practiced in the 17th century. Today, the battle rings is no longer practiced.

Swell

Books have been written for this purpose, among others, Hans Talhoffer. Most books and pictures are from the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries and show the fight rings also often used in conjunction with weapons such as swords and daggers.
