Ringsjön

Ringsjön is a lake in the Swedish province of Skåne County and the second largest lake in Skåne.

Geography

It is divided into the sections Västra Ringsjön, Östra Ringsjön and Sätoftasjön, with the latter two parts are sometimes combined. The lake extends over the communities Eslöv, Höör and Hörby. The catchment area of the lake is about 395 km ². There is a north-western outflow in the river Ronne å, which flows into Skälderviken in the town of Ängelholm.

The water level of the lake is regulated and is 53.5 m ö.h. The maximum depth is 17 meters.

History

1883 decided the owner of the goods Rönneholm a drainage of the area. Thus, the water level was lowered by 1.5 meters and won farmland or Torffläche. At the same time the surface of the lake by 30% and the amount of water reduced by 20%. Only this time the clear division emerged into a western and an eastern section. The church of the small village Munkarp which previously lay right on the shore, is now several kilometers away from the lake.

The following intensive agriculture led to eutrophication of the water, which made picking up the fish in the lake. Prior to the establishment of Bolmentunnels the lake was an important drinking water supplier for the Greater Helsingborg. Today, drinking water will still won for the surrounding area. The lake also has the status of a reserve memory for West Skåne.

The Lilloe Peninsula (before lowering the water level an island ) consists of the remains of a volcano and is also known for its nature reserve with impressive aspen. In a previous island are the remains of Bosjöklosters whose foundation is suspected before the 12th century.
