The channel, called to distinguish from the closest Remdaer channel also Königseer gutter, is a 18 km long tributary of the Schwarza in the district Saalfeld- Rudolstadt, in the Thuringian Slate Mountains.

Course

It rises on the northern outskirts of Herschdorf in Ilm-Kreis and flows first in a northerly direction on to Garsitz. Then follows Königsee in its course nor the community composting stream, where it picks up the 12 km long river Rotte. It opens in Bad Blankenburg left in the Schwarza.

Subdued environmental impact

In GDR times, the channel was biologically dead Except for the communities in the gutter of the main polluters was the former tool factory Königsee (formerly Stock & Co), which initiated insufficiently neutralized wastewater from the hardening and pickling lines. The pollution was so strong that rusty tools and other parts you dove into Watzdorf for cleaning in the gutter and blank pulled out again after 2 to 3 days.

Today the channel has regenerated to the extent that feel small animals and fish in it.
