Rio Vermelho Microregion

The micro- region of Rio Vermelho is a total of 18 micro-regions of the state of Goiás in the Midwest of Brazil. It belongs to mesoregion Northwest Goiás. Namesake is the Rio Vermelho, in the southeast of Goiás Velho flows through starting at the entire region in the center to the northwest and flows on the north- western border in the Rio Araguaia.

The main town is Goiás Velho, until 1937, the former capital of Goiás. Because of its historic center with many Baroque buildings from the 18th century, the city was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2002.

In the southeast the landscape of the Serra Dourada is embossed. The highest elevation is in the south of Goiás Velho with 1056 m. North-west of this mountain range, the hilly Rio Araguaia - level extends to the lowest point in the region of 286 m at Aruanã.

The economy is characterized mainly by agriculture. The industrial sector consists mainly of small businesses.

In agriculture, especially maize, cassava and rice is grown with a share of the total Brazilian production of approximately 0.4 %, 5.3 %, or 3.6%. Are grown to a lesser extent soy and beans. The cultivation of pineapple in 2008 reached about 1.6 % of the Brazilian pineapple production.
