Ripatransone

Ripatransone ( in the local dialect: le Ripe ) is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 4340 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Ascoli Piceno in the Marche. The community is located about 22 kilometers northeast of Ascoli Piceno and about 8.5 kilometers west of the Adriatic coast at the Tesino.

History

As a community with market freedoms Ripatransone in the books has been known since 1205. Pius V. taught here a diocese in 1571 and gave the place a town. In 1983 the diocese was merged with that of San Benedetto del Tronto. Today it is the diocese of San Benedetto del Tronto Ripatransone -Mont Alto.

Community partnerships

Ripatransone has since 1996 an intra- Italian partnership with the community Sapri in the province of Salerno, and also since 1996 a partnership with the Greek island of Zakynthos town on the Ionian Islands.
