Rita Borsellino

Rita Borsellino ( born June 2, 1945 in Palermo) is an Italian politician who is involved in Sicily in the fight against the Mafia and is one of the symbolic figures of the anti - mafia movement.

Life

She was born as the younger sister of Paolo Borsellino judge. In 1967 she graduated in Palermo from her pharmacy degree and worked as a pharmacist at the pharmacy of their father.

Borsellino's political career began when her brother, determined together with Giovanni Falcone against the Mafia, was murdered on their behalf in 1992. She founded in 1995 the Liberation, an organization whose goal is the Sicilian population, especially teenagers is to further motivate you to take a stand against the Mafia. Borsellino is the Vice President of this organization.

In May 2006, she appeared in elections to the Sicilian Regional Assembly, but was defeated Salvatore Cuffaro, who had been president in 2001, and became opposition leader. Since the 2009 European election is a Member of the European Parliament. There they heard of the Socialist Group S & D.

As an MEP is Borsellino member of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs and the special committee on organized crime, corruption and money laundering and the Delegation for relations with the Arab Peninsula
