Rita Lejeune

Rita Lejeune ( born November 22, 1906 in Herstal, † March 18, 2009 in Liège ) was a Belgian Romance languages ​​, medievalist and Wallonistin.

Life and work

Rita Lejeune studied as one of the first women in Romance Philology at Maurice Wilmotte in Liege and his doctorate in 1928 Le style dans les oeuvres attribuées à Jean Renart, but also earned a degree from the Ecole pratique des hautes études with the work Recherches sur le Roman de Guillaume de Dole, suivies d'une édition du poème (1936). She made the Agrégation and was 1937-1954 Chargé de cours (assistant professor ) at the University of Liege, where she taught as a second wife. In the early forties, she studied further at Joseph Salvat (1889-1972) in Toulouse in the Okzitanistik. From 1954 to 1977 she was a full professor at the University of Liege. She was editor of the magazine Le Moyen Age and the floor plan of the Romance literature of the Middle Ages. Volume III, Les épopées Romance, Heidelberg 1981-2005. Since 1988 she was a regular member of the Académie royale de Belgique. She was one of the academies in Barcelona and Toulouse, and was an honorary doctor of the University of Bordeaux.

Rita Lejeune was the daughter of the Walloon writer Jean Lamoureux († 1918) and sister of the historian Jean Lejeune ( 1914-1979 ). She was married to the politician Fernand Dehousse (1906-1976), mother of the politician Jean -Maurice Dehousse and Romanistin Françoise Dehousse and grandmother of the political scientist Renaud Dehousse (* 1960).
