Rites of Spring

Rites of Spring was an American post-hardcore band of the 1980s. The group is considered a pioneer of the Emo genre, although she repeatedly rejected this genre assignment.

History

The band was formed in 1984 by singer and guitarist Guy Picciotto, guitarist Eddie Janney, bassist Mike Fellows and drummer Brendan Canty in Washington, DC founded. The group took its name from the ballet Le sacre du printemps (English: The Rite of Spring). Although the band had played a few concerts and only there a year Rites of Spring in 1985 recorded their debut album, Rites of Spring. The album was released on Ian MacKayes label Dischord Records.

In 1986 the band split, the members played with the exception of Fellows, however, in the formation One Last Wish, together with the Embrace guitarist Michael Hampton for another year together and released another album. After the separation of Hampton, Fellows completed the three again. In this constellation, the band existed until 1988 under the name Happy Go Licky.

In 1987, the 1986 recorded EP All Through a Life was published, which was included in the compilation End on End 1991. On End on End all studio recordings of Rites of Spring were published, was published in 2001 a remastered version.

Guy Picciotto and Brendan Canty joined the group in 1987 to Fugazi, when they are still active today. Mike Fellows released an album under the name Miighty Flashlight and 2004, one under his own name in 2002.
