River Frome (Bristol)

Weir in the River Frome

The River Frome rises in Dodington Park west of Tormaton in South Gloucestershire.

River Frome is the name of several rivers in south-west England. The name comes from the Old English and in German means as much as " active " or "good".

From its source the Frome flows in a westerly direction through the towns of Chipping Sodbury and Yate. The river west of Yate turns in a southwesterly direction. Just before the motorway junction of the M4 and the M32, the river crosses the M4 and first follows the course of the M32, under which he runs at the end on the edge of downtown Bristol. From there, the Frome is completely run underground through the city center. The Frome flows into the Avon in an area within the city of Bristol, which is called the Floating Harbour, where the Avon is regulated according to the tides through locks.

The Frome Valley Walkway runs from Old Sudbury east of Chipping Sudbury 30 km along the river to Bristol.
