The, also called Rouge River Rouge River, is a river in southeastern Michigan, USA.

It has a length of about 203 kilometers and is divided into four arms: the actual Rouge River ( Main), and the Upper, Middle and Lower respectively from west accrue. The river has a catchment area of about 1200 km ².

Course

The actual Rouge River rises in Rochester Hills, Upper River Rouge in Farmington Hills, Middle River Rouge in Northville and Lower River Rouge in Superior Township in Washtenaw County. The Upper River Rouge flows into the main stream in Detroit, east of Redford Township, the Middle Rouge is added on the northern border of Dearborn, and the Lower Rouge mixes its waters added about three kilometers downstream. Other major cities along the river are Dearborn, Dearborn Heights, Southfield, Rochester Hills. After the river, the city River Rouge crosses, it empties into the Detroit River. It flows through it mainly Oakland County and Wayne County.

Use

In the area of Dearborn River is used, among other things, for electricity supply to the Ford River Rouge Complexes located there. Due to the heavy industrialization at the lower reaches of the river water quality was severely compromised in this area.

The mouth of the river was changed and dredged for shipping by the United States Army Corps of Engineers. With pollutants contaminated soil was piled up on Grassy Iceland near the river mouth.

Since 1992, there is an initiative called the Rouge River Project, which attempts to significantly improve the water quality again.
