The Rivière des Prairies is a river in the Canadian province of Quebec and forms one of the estuaries of the Ottawa River in the Hochelaga Archipelago.

It starts in the Lac des Deux Montagnes and flows northeastward, where it separates the Île de Montréal from Île Jésus. In the river, the border between the cities of Montréal ( in the southeast ) and Laval ( in the northwest). After about 50 kilometers, he takes on the Rivière des Mille Îles and the Rivière L' Assomption. Shortly thereafter, at the northern tip of the Ile de Montréal across from Charlemagne, it flows into the St. Lawrence River.

In the river are many islands. These include the Ile Bizard, the Îles Laval and the Ile de la Visitation. The latter is located since 1930 operated by Hydro-Québec hydroelectric power station with six generators and a power of 48 MW. Below the Îles Laval are rapids, the Rapides du Cheval Blanc.

Was named the river in 1615 by Samuel de Champlain.
