Robert Emmett Lee

Robert Emmett Lee ( born October 12, 1868 in Pottsville, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, † November 19, 1916 ) was an American politician. Between 1911 and 1915 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Robert Lee attended the common schools and then completed an apprenticeship as a blacksmith. He later worked in Pottsville in the trade. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Democratic Party launched a political career. In 1905, he was district treasurer. In 1908 he ran unsuccessfully for Congress yet. In the congressional elections of 1910, but he was then in the twelfth electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of the Republican Alfred Buckwalter Garner on March 4, 1911.

After a re-election Lee was able to complete two terms 1915 to March 3. During this time he was chairman of the Committee on Mileage. In addition, the 16th and the 17th Amendment to the Constitution were ratified. In the years 1914 and 1916, Robert Lee applied unsuccessfully to his whereabouts or in his return to the Congress. After his time in the U.S. House of Representatives, he resumed his previous activities on again. He died November 19, 1916 in Pottsville.
