Robert Giffen

Sir Robert Giffen ( born July 22, 1837 in Strathaven, Lanarkshire, Scotland, † April 12, 1910 in Fort Augustus, Highland, Scotland ) was a British statistician and economist. He founded the Giffen paradox, a price effect from microeconomics.

1892 Giffen was elected as a member ( "Fellow" ) to the Royal Society. 1891 Bathorden third class ( Companion of the Order of the Bath, CB), he was awarded in 1895 the Bathorden second class ( Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath, KCB ). For his work he was awarded in 1894 by the Royal Statistical Society with the Guy Medal in Gold.

Giffen died in 1910 in Fort Augustus. He was buried in his birthplace of Strathaven.
