Robert Hass

Robert L. Hass ( * March 1, 1941 in San Francisco) is an American poet and winner of the Pulitzer Prize in 2008, which he received for his poetry collection "Time and Materials". In the years 1995 to 1997 he held the title " Poet Laureate " of the United States of America.

Life

Robert Hass was born in San Francisco in the state of California, which is also reflected in his work. His poems are in theme and attitude as strongly based on the life and culture of the American West Coast. Hatred grew up with an alcoholic mother, his older brother encouraged him to write. His mother's alcoholism made ​​hatred especially in his 1996 published book of poems "Sun Under Wood" on the subject. He received his high school diploma in 1958 from the Marin Catholic High School.

He works as a professor at the University of California and is married to the poet and anti-war activist Brenda Hillman.

In 1984 he was MacArthur Fellow.
