Robert L. Simpson (film editor)

Robert L. Simpson ( born July 31, 1910 in St. Louis, Missouri, † June 1977 in San Bernardino, California ) was an American film editor at.

Life

Robert L. Simpson began his career in 1935 as an editor at Paramount Pictures. In the late 1930s he moved to 20th Century Fox, where he was employed for more than 35 years. Until 1989 he was responsible for more than 100 films. Twice he also worked with director John Ford together, so for Drums Along the Mohawk ( Drums Along the Mohawk, 1939) and The Grapes of Wrath ( The Grapes of Wrath, 1940). For the latter film Simpson received in 1941 an Oscar nomination for Best Editing. However, he was defeated Bauchens Anne and her work for The Scarlet Horseman ( North West Mounted Police, 1940). Other films in which Simpson worked as a cutter, were The King and I ( The King and I, 1956) with Deborah Kerr, A woman who knows everything ( Desk Set, 1957) with Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy and the Western The Undefeated ( The Undefeated, 1969) with John Wayne.
