Robert Lantos
Robert Lantos ( born April 3, 1949 in Budapest) is a Hungarian film producer.
Life and work
After his family in 1956, fleeing the revolution in Hungary, Robert Lantos grew up in Montevideo. In 1963 the family immigrated again in a foreign country, this time she moved to Canada, more specifically, to Montreal. Lantos attended the North Mount High School and later the University of McGill. Together with his friend Victor Loewy he founded in 1972, while still a student, his first company called Viva film. Three years later he founded with Stephen Roth, a sister company called RSL film. With little budget he produced in 1977 his first film, L'Ange et la Femme. Already his next film, Lust for Love with Tom Berenger, should be an international success.
RSL and Viva film joined in 1985 with the International Cinema Corporation together to form the Alliance Communications Corporation. Lantos was there Vice Chairman. Two years later, he became chairman and CEO. Lantos led the company in a strong phase of development and expansion. Alliance Communications Corporation became a major international force in film production and dissemination. After also were incorporated entertainment and history as subject areas in the company, it was also a central figure in the Canadian stations.
When Alliance Communications Corporation in 1998 with Atlantis Communications, the second largest television production company in Canada, merged, Lantos sold its equity stake and left this. He continues to produce in Canada and abroad with its new, Toronto-based, company, Serendipity Point Films.
Lantos is committed to the State of Israel and supports this also. He visited the country for the first time in 1969 and now traveling there regularly. There Lantos also produced several films, including Gideon's Sword. In addition, he is also a member of the Order of Canada.
