Robert Le Roy Livingston

Robert Le Roy Livingston (* 1778 in Claverack, New York, † 1836) was an American politician. Between 1809 and 1812 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Robert Le Roy Livingston was born during the War of Independence in Claverack. He graduated at Princeton College. On 14 January 1799 he signed up as a First Lieutenant in the Twelfth U.S. Infantry, and was honorably discharged on June 15, 1800. Politically, he was a member of the Federalist Party. In the congressional elections of 1808 Livingston was in the sixth electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Daniel C. Verplanck on March 4, 1809. He was again re-elected, but resigned on May 6, 1812 back from his seat to attend the British -American War. On 29 May 1812, he signed up as a lieutenant colonel in the 23th Infantry and served until his resignation on February 1, 1813., He died in 1836.
