Robert Legato

Robert " Rob" Legato (* 1956 ) is a VFX supervisor, who won in 1998 for the film Titanic and 2012 for the film Hugo Cabret Oscar.

Life

He grew up in Asbury Park, Monmouth County, New Jersey, and went to the Ocean Township High School. Then Robert Legato took a Master's degree in camera at the Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, before he was supervisor in 1986 for the first time responsible for a series of the television series The Twilight Zone as VFX. From 1987 to 1992 he worked for the team, the Star Trek: The Next Generation turned. He was responsible for about half of all consequences for the special effects. In 1993, he worked in the series Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, before moving to the special effects company Digital Domain in 1994. In 1996 he was VFX supervisor for the film version of the near- disaster of Apollo 13 lunar mission, for which he was nominated for an Oscar.

Follow the 1997 film Titanic, for which he won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects in 1998. Shortly thereafter, he joined Digital Domain Sony Pictures Imageworks. In 2004, he worked in the production of the feature film The Aviator for the first time together with Martin Scorsese. There followed a further collaboration with The Departed - The Departed, the documentary Shine a Light and George Harrison: Living in the Material World. In 2012 he received his second Oscar for the film Hugo Cabret with Joss Williams, Ben Grossman, and Alex Henning.
