Robert P. Dilworth

Robert Palmer Dilworth ( born December 2, 1914 in Hemet, California, † 29 October 1993 in California ) was an American mathematician who worked on the theory of organizations and combinatorics.

Dilworth studied at Caltech (Bachelor 1936), where he received his doctorate at Morgan Ward 1939. After that, he was instructor at Yale University as a Sterling Fellow. From 1943 he was back at Caltech as an assistant professor. During the Second World War, he was an analyst with the U.S. Air Force in England. In 1945 he became associate professor in 1950 and professor at Caltech. In 1982, he went there to retire. In addition to his academic work, he was also active in the education of mathematics, including in a State Committee for the college training and a project to promote the training of mathematics teachers in Africa.
