Robert Schiess

Robert Schiess ( * 1896 in Cham, † 1956 in Ischia, Italy) was a Swiss painter.

Life

Robert Schiess was born in 1896 in Cham, Schoolhouse Road 14. The painting he learned in Altdorf. After training, he worked in Lausanne. To refine the arts Shooting undertook in 1920 a study trip to Italy. After a few lean years, artist Robert shooting occurred from 1923 to 1927 in the service of the Pontifical Swiss Guard. The service at the Vatican allowed shooting to educate yourself. Became aware of his talent, he was introduced on the recommendation by the Lords of Schulthess, in the circle around the famous painter Philip Alexius de László. With him shooting toured the world in 1928. Stations of the trips were, inter alia, America, Africa, Spain, France and Italy again. Deeply impressed he was by the Egyptian court, where both artists lingered a long time.

1933 Shooting returned to Italy and took his service in the Swiss Guard to 1951 again. During this time he was very productive and not only painted for the Vatican, but also created many commissioned pictures for wealthy citizens. In addition to shooting portraits painted landscapes. But his great love was making copies of old masters. Here he perfected his art and was able to show his skills. This brought a shooting great recognition and the Vatican commissioned him again with the production of portraits of all the captains of the Swiss Guard.
