Robert Stanbury

Robert Douglas George Stanbury PC QC ( born October 26, 1929 in Exeter, Ontario ) is a Canadian lawyer and politician of the Liberal Party of Canada, who was for several years a Member of the House of Commons and Minister.

Life

After schooling Stanbury graduated, from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (BA). Another study of law, he finished with a Bachelor of Laws ( LL.B. ) and then worked as an attorney, solicitor and barrister.

In the general election of November 8, 1965 Stanbury was first elected as a candidate of the Liberal Party as a delegate in the House of Commons and represented in this up to his mandate resignation on November 9, 1977 the constituency of York - Scarborough. Early in his career, he was Member of 18 January 1966 to April 23, 1968 Chairman of the Standing House of Commons Committee on Broadcasting, Films and support of the arts.

In August 1968, he took his first government official to October 1969 and was Parliamentary Secretary to the Permanent Secretary for Canada. Following Stanbury was first appointed on 20 October 1969 by Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau as Minister without Portfolio in the 20th Canadian Cabinet, in which he subsequently after a cabinet reshuffle on August 12, 1971, 1972, Communications Minister until November 26. Most recently, he was on 27 November 1972 to July 7, 1974 Minister of National Income in the Cabinet Trudeau.

After retiring from the House of Commons he was in 1977 Secretary General of the Canadian branch of the Firestone Tire & Rubber Company ( Firestone Canada), the Chief Executive Officer ( CEO), he was later. After completing his work at Firestone, he worked as a lawyer in the law firm of inches, Easterbrook and Shaker in Hamilton and was committed to an ancillary matter in the International Commission of Jurists and the first integrity commissioner for the Nunavut Territory in the period from March 2001 by July 2008.

Stanburys older brother Richard Stanbury was a member of the Senate and represented in this 1968-1998 thirty years, the Senate district York Centre.
