Robert Strichartz

Robert Stephen Strichartz ( born October 14, 1943 in New York City ) is an American mathematician who deals with analysis.

Strichartz 1966 at Elias Stein at Princeton University PhD ( Multipliers on generalized Sobolev spaces ). In 1967 he was Moore Instructor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is a professor at Cornell University.

Strichartz deals with Harmonic Analysis (including wavelets and Analysis on Lie groups ), partial differential equations and analysis on fractals. According to him, Strichartz estimates are named from its application of harmonic analysis on nonlinear wave equations ( later transferred to nonlinear wave equations by Terence Tao and others). Later he worked with Analysis on fractals, building on the work of Jun Kigami on the construction of a Laplacian on fractals such as the Sierpinski sponge.

In 1983 he was awarded the Lester Randolph Ford Award for Radon inversion - variations on a theme (American Mathematical Monthly, Volume 89, 1982, pp. 377-384, 420-423 ).
