Robert Tomasulo

Robert Tomasulo (* October 31, 1934; † 3 April 2008) was an American computer engineer.

Tomasulo studied at Manhattan College and came in 1956 to IBM Research. After 10 years, he joined the development department of mainframe computers, such as the System/360 Model 91 He was 25 years to the early 1980s at IBM. He is known for the eponymous algorithm ( Tomasulo algorithm), which he introduced in 1967, when he was with IBM. It allows execution of instructions in the processor out of order ( out of order execution ), for example when certain commands are blocked due to data conflicts. He was first in the System/360 IBM implemented ( Floating Point Unit in model 91).
