Robert W. Bower

Robert W. Bower ( born June 12, 1936 in Santa Monica, California) is an American physicist.

1954 to 1958 he served in the U.S. Air Force. He received his bachelor's degree in 1962 in physics at the University of California at Berkeley, 1963 Master of Engineering, and in 1973 the Ph.D. at the California Institute of Technology.

In 1965 he went to Hughes Research Laboratories in Malibu, California, where he invented the Self Aligned Gate MOSFET, which was patented as early as 1969. From 1987 to 2000 he taught at the University of California, Davis. In 1997, he was honored for the invention of the MOSFET through the inclusion in the National Inventors Hall of Fame.
