Robert Ward (blues musician)

Jeryl Robert Ward ( * October 15, 1938 in Lutherville, Georgia, USA, † December 25, 2008 in Dry Branch ) was an American blues singer and guitarist. He was from 1959 to 1965 frontman of the band Ohio Players.

Life

Ward moved with his parents in 1960 after Daytown, Ohio, where he founded the Ohio Players then with Marshal Jones ( bass), Clarence Satchell (saxophone, guitar), Cornelius Johnson ( drums), and Ralph Middlebrooks (trumpet, trombone). Ward wrote many songs for the band, including Your Love is amazing. In 1965 he left the group to start a solo career.

Later he moved to the Detroit area with a resident of Toledo, Ohio and released a couple of singles for his name from the 1960s. In the 1970s he worked as a session musician for Motown.

In the early 1990s, he came back into the spotlight. He was discovered by Black Top Records and released Fear no evil, his first full-length album.

On December 25, 2008 Robert Ward died at the age of 70 years.
