Roberta Flack

Roberta Flack (* February 10, 1937 or 1939 in Asheville, Black Mountain, North Carolina ) is an American soul singer, pianist and songwriter.

Life and work

Flack studied music education and preparing for a classical pianist career ahead. At the same time she played in Washington nightclubs. Her breakthrough in the pop music she experienced in 1971 in 1969 recorded her ballad The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face ( Ewan MacColl written by ) chose as an actor and filmmaker Clint Eastwood for his movie Sadistico; the song was a 1972 number -one hit in the United States.

Also a U.S. number-one was one of their best known hits, Killing Me Softly with His Song ( a cover version of Lori Lieberman ), which was awarded at the Grammy Awards in 1974 as single of the year. Some of their other hits, such as Where Is the Love, she sang a duet with Donny Hathaway. Their musical director was the mid-70s the pianist Harry Whitaker.
