Roberto Donis

Roberto Donís ( born February 26, 1934 in Venado / San Luis Potosí, † 2008) was a Mexican painter.

Biography

Donis studied at the Escuela Nacional de Pintura, Escultura y Grabado " La Esmeralda" in Mexico City. From 1954 he taught as a master at the art school in Morelia. In Morelia, he also had his first solo exhibition. In 1957 he returned to Mexico City. A year later he went to New York City and Washington and received an honorable mention in the international competition of the Instituto de Arte de México. In 1962 he went to Paris for two years and took there in 1963 at the III. Biennale de Paris. Back in Mexico, he participated in the Confrontación 66 and was involved with the selection of the national representatives for the Expo 67. From 1966 to 1969 he lived in New York. After that he went to Santa María del Tule and was instrumental in the founding of the workshop of Fine Arts at the Universidad Autónoma Benito Juárez de Oaxaca and the " Rufino Tamayo " workshop in Oaxaca. Donis exhibited his paintings from several American, European and Asian countries.
