Roberto Rosato

Roberto Rosato called Faccia d' Angelo ( German: Angel Face), ( born August 18, 1943 in Chieri, † June 20, 2010 ) was an Italian footballer. In the 1960s, he won with AC Milan the World Cup and the European Champions Cup and Cup Winners' Cup. With Italy he was European champion in 1968 and 1970 Vice World Champion.

He was regarded as a typical representative of Catenaccio and became one of the best Italian defender of his time.

Career

Rosato began his career in 1960 at Torino in Serie A. Even in the following season 1961/62 he had conquered a regular place and a year later he won the Coppa Italia with Torino.

1966 brought him Nereo Rocco, who had trained him in Turin and now was a coach with AC Milan, to Milan, where he reached the zenith and the greatest success of his career. In the first season he won the Italian championship with Milan and the European Cup Winners' Cup, for the said Milan had qualified in the previous season. 1968 Rosato was under coach Ferruccio Valcareggi with the Italian national team European champion and in the following 1968/69 season he won Milan the European Champions Cup and the Intercontinental Cup.

In 1970 Rosato as a finalist at the World Championships in the Italian national team. Previously, he was a participant in the match of the century, the 4:3 aet won against Germany semifinal, been. In this game, he successfully guarded the top scorer of the tournament, Gerd Müller. Only after Rosato replacement before the extension Müller scored his two goals. 1972 and 1973 Rosato won with Milan twice the Coppa Italia before he moved to Genoa for the 1973/74 season. There he was relegated to Serie B in the first season. Overall, he spent two seasons with Genoa in Serie B before the end of the 1975/76 season the re- promotion to Serie A succeeded. Rosato was yet another season at Genoa, but only came to a total of three bets before he finished his career.

Rosato died on 20 June 2010 at the age of 66 from cancer. In order to pay their last respects, played the Italian national football team on this day in World Cup match against New Zealand with crape.
