Robiac-Rochessadoule

Robiac - Rochessadoule is a commune with 884 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ), which is located in the department of Gard ( Languedoc- Roussillon ). The municipality belongs to the municipality of Communauté de communes des Cévennes Association Actives.

Geography

The community consists mainly of three villages, namely, in the valley of the river Céze to about 150 m Places Robiac and Le Buis, and from the lying in height Rochessadoule (240 m). Geographically Robiac - Rochessadoule at the foot of the Cevennes.

History

Robiac was until the mid-19th century, an important railway junction, the line to Le Teil (via Vogüé ) in Ardèche on line Alès - the ( still in operation ) combined Bessèges to the coal mines of La Valette SNCF and the line.

Bessèges, which was a hamlet of Robiac, was spun off in the mid-19th century as a result of the economic importance of Robiac and raised to the capital of the canton.

Once in the municipal area in the underground mining industry coal was mined in the 19th and 20th centuries, the population increased considerably.
