Rochecolombe

Rochecolombe is a French municipality with 232 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the south of the Ardèche, in the Rhône -Alpes. It belongs to the canton of Villeneuve -de-Berg and the Local Government Association, Gorges de l' Ardèche.

Geography

Rochecolombe is located on a ridge between the valleys of the Ardèche and the Ibie, 12 kilometers southeast of Aubenas and 11 kilometers northeast of Ruoms, between the neighboring communes of Saint -Maurice d'Ardèche in the west and Saint- Maurice- d'Ibie in the east. The municipality consists of the town center, the old abandoned village and the hamlets Sauveplantade and Vaudanoux.

History

According to the Charter Vetus Silva Plantada ( Sauveplantade ) was presented to the Bishop of Viviers in the 7th century by Aginus and his wife Pétronille. The bishops awarded from the 11th century fief of the village. So got the family Vogüé, who belonged Rochecolombe, a fief in Sauveplantade. The old village was built in the 14th and 15th century on the ruins of the keep of a medieval castle. It is higher than the present-day town center.

Attractions

The Romanesque church of Saint -Pierre de Sauveplantade was built in the 11th and 12th centuries. An original church in Sauveplantade was mentioned in the Charter Vetus. The present church was classified in 1907 as a monument historique (historic monument). She was from the 11th century, part of a priory, which belonged to the Benedictine monastery of Cruas.
