Rockstar Advanced Game Engine

The Rockstar Advanced Game Engine ( RAGE ) is a technology developed by Rockstar San Diego in collaboration with developers of other Rockstar Studios game engine.

RAGE was developed in response to the acquisition of Criterion Games by Electronic Arts (EA). Until now, the Rockstar studios used, for example in the GTA III trilogy, developed by Criterion Engine Render goods. Their use was discontinued due to concerns about the use of the information that would EA obtained by licensing the Render ware engine. Instead, a self-development should be created for new projects.

RAGE was the first time in the Xbox 360 game Rockstar Games presents Table Tennis used, which was later ported including engine on the Wii. Other uses found the engine in the games Grand Theft Auto IV ( PS3, X360, PC) and Midnight Club: Los Angeles (PS3, Xbox 360). Not LA Remix on RAGE, but use a proprietary development by Rockstar Leeds and Rockstar London: Contrary to some assertions are based PlayStation Portable offshoot of the GTA series and Midnight Club. Also, not sure if LA Noire will be based on RAGE or whether, as in Bully: Scholarship Edition (X360, Wii, PC), a self-development will be used.

The engine has to get based on the graphical presentation of table tennis, very good reviews. Especially the detailed animated faces were presented often valued positively.

In RAGE various third-party middleware has been integrated, including the character animation engine Euphoria, the Bullet physics engine and development environment SpeedTree is used to render realistic trees.
