Roger Bonvin

Roger Bonvin ( born September 12, 1907 in Icogne, † June 5, 1982 in Sion; homeland justified in Icogne, Lens, Chermignon and Nendaz) was a Swiss politician ( CVP). As he was Federal Finance and Minister of Transport and held two times, the Office of the President.

Career

Bonvin visited the colleges in customs and Einsiedeln, and holds a degree in civil engineering at the ETH Zurich, where he graduated in 1932. He was 1932-1934 involved as engineer on the construction of the Grande Dixence. In 1935, he worked at the Department of Topography and 1936-1943 at Building Department of the Canton of Valais. From 1943 to 1949 Bonvin was head of the cantonal Office for the protection of workers. From 1949 to 1955 he was involved as an engineer on the construction of the dam Mauvoisin.

Bonvin was a colonel in the Swiss mountain brigade 10 He called in April 1943 - at that time as a captain - along with Rodolphe Tissières to increase physical performance, the Patrouille des Glaciers in life.

Political offices

Roger Bonvin turned only 40 years for political office in Sion are available. He was City Council (1948-1962) and followed Georges Maret first for as Vice-President (1953-1955) and then as mayor ( 1955-1962 ). In the canton of Parliament, he represented the customs district as a Grand Council ( 1957-1962 ). In 1955 he was elected to the National Council. After the resignation of Jean Bourgknecht National Bonvin hit the official candidate in the by-election on 27 September 1962, was elected on the fifth ballot in the Federal Council. He took over on October 1, 1962, the Tax and Customs Department. At a department change occurred on 1 July 1968, when he joined the Transport and Energy Department of Economic Affairs. On October 1, 1973 was the Vice President of the Bundesrat, Ernst Brugger, the resignation of President Roger Bonvin and the federal councils Hans-Peter Tschudi and Nello Celio on December 31, 1973 known.

Roger Bonvin played a significant role in the construction of the Furka base tunnel. It was opened 20 days after his death. He was by Josef Escher second Valais Federal Council and also the first who could officiate as President.
